Supervisory Management Overview
This portion of the course will focus on discussion of demographic and social trends in the workplace and
how this affects supervisors. An indepth
comparison of four schools of management theories will examine
the evolution of supervision.
Managers and Leaders, are they different? The ability to influence others.
Investigate the relationship between management and leadership through discussing the vital characteristics of the supervisor as a leader in the workplace. Concepts of authority as it relates to any managerial position and the types of influential power potentially available to a supervisor will be discussed.
Motivational Principles as applied to supervision and leadership.
The main topics covered in this section will include a comparison of motivational theories and their importance for understanding employee behavior as well as various approaches for stimulating employee motivation.
Orientation, Training and Development of Employees
A look into the T&D process, how T&D needs are determined and examining the various T&D methods will be the main focus of the section. A discussion of orientation techniques will assist in developing a supervisor’s knowledge of employee development.
Resolving Conflicts in the Workplace
Recognizing that conflict resolution in the workplace is a vital component of supervision. A look into conflict resolution techniques and guidelines for supervisors to follow in resolving complaints will be discussed.
Performance Management: Appraising, Coaching and Developing Employees
Delve into the supervisor’s role in the performance appraisal process. The use of appraisal forms, interviews, coaching and goal setting to help develop your employees will be discussed.
Notes: There are no prerequisites for this course. The handout material and a certificate of completion are included with the course fee. As a means to provide assessment and certification, a summary test can be provided at the completion of the course. Please note that this is optional, adds time to the course length and costs an additional $75.
